23es Victorious

16/11/2009

23es achieved a glorious victory in the Advocate's Charity Quiz in Lincoln's Inn – 13th November 2009.

Attended by the Attorney General, the Chairman of the Bar and others of the great and the good, chambers demonstrated, in addition to its already renowned superior knowledge of criminal law and procedure, an extensive and impressive grasp of arcane history, obscure quotations and, most importantly, fatuous trivia.

Having negotiated many of the trickiest questions with aplomb (the Tardis is an acronym for ...?; which football team lost its 4 consecutive cup finals in 20 years - with thanks to Zaki Hashmi of Aston Clark) 23es mysteriously still found itself trailing outside the top 3 at the end of the penultimatre round.

However, in a storming finale chambers reached a tie break with Grant Thornton at the end of the final round.

'In a recent survey in the US, what proportion of people believed that Noah was married to Joan of Arc.'  With the certainty that any member would display when dealing with an awkward question from the Court of Appeal, chambers naturally had the answer and scooped the award.

As you would expect, celebrations were modest and sober.
